Chapter 4 – Taking the Knight Apprentice Exam!

Two weeks later, Fii found herself looking at the Apprentice Knight Exam’s huge line.

(There’s soo many people. I’d better line up soon…)

The queue went from beyond a nearby gate, all the way into the castle.

Early this morning, Fii snuck out of the villa before the guards normally woke up, and hid herself inside the castle.
It was for the sake of taking the exam.
And so as to avoid being spotted by the people of the castle, she snuck along the outer walls, and made it all the way to the location of the exam.

Fii wanted to line up like everybody else coming from beyond the castle, but she had actually come from the other direction.
Because of that, she had to quickly sneak out and reach the end of the line.

These last two weeks Fii had swung her sword, day and night.
She was all on her own, so there was nothing else she could do to improve. But she was confident that she had done everything she could have.

Honestly speaking, her body wasn’t in good shape.
It was because she hadn’t been able to eat properly.

Ever since she had come to this country, Fii had evolved from being treated like air, to being treated like a parasite.
Besides food and daily needs, she had been granted nothing else.

Well, thinking about it though, that much was natural.

To the people of this nation, Fii had both hijacked her younger twin’s romance and demanded a free ride into a wedding with a powerful groom. What’s more, she was merely a princess from a small nation, that normally no one in Orstoll would have given a second thought to.
Who would willingly look after a woman like that?
If she asked, they would probably curtly give her the minimum, but that kind of attitude couldn’t be helped.

Since coming to this nation, Fii had only been given lazy guards, and a villa that had likely been used as a storehouse before her arrival.

Because of that, the ingredients for her food thus far had been bought by the Head Chef using her own money.
He had probably bought them from merchants visiting the castle.
Her food had been nothing but cooled soup and unappetising bread though…

And now that the Head Chef had resigned, there was nobody to leave the villa to buy ingredients for her.

Even Fii was worried when she first noticed this.

But there was nothing she could do about it.
It wouldn’t have done for her to ask the guards for help.

She was going to grab hold of another life soon. In order for her to succeed in doing so, the less people who knew her face, the better.

Because of that, Fii spent the last two weeks carefully rationing out the remaining ingredients.

Sadly, despite being in one of the most prosperous nations in the world, and inside its Royal Castle, for some reason Fii was faced with a sudden survivalist challenge. Life could truly be ridiculous sometimes.

At any rate, her rations had run out two days prior, meaning that Fii had spent the last two days without eating anything.
All while continuing her sword swinging regimen.

(This might be my only chance like this.)

Today held the critical moment that would decide if Fii would be able to live as another person.
There was no failing now.

Fii was still inside the castle.
Her immediate goal was to cross the walls, and then line up in the queue.
This was the first challenge of her day.

While Fii was keeping a low profile in her search for a way to leave, a voice suddenly called out from behind.

“Oiii, the cute little miss over there. Are you lost?”

  1. THAT KING TOTALLY PISSED ME OFF!!!!!!!
Eventhough he see Fii as some gold digger, parasite, or someone despicable, but she is still older sister of the girl he loves, and he already agreed to marry her. The well being of Fii is now his responsibility, and what?? You dont even bother to feed her???? What the hell you damned king!! At least you have to make aute she is alive even if you no give her any luxury or whatsoever!

    Thanks for new chapter.

    • I agree. Even if it is for appearances’ sake she should be treated better. She is the king’s wife after all.
What I want to know is if her sister loves her or she is a bitch.

  2. Wait! She is cute? I was thinking that she was quite the ordinary looking one =o
But looking to the “little miss”…. maybe she just doesn’t have the same great figure of her sister but a modest/small one? And people look up to a “wow” body?
Now I wander if the person who called for her will say she can’t enter for being woman and she will go and crossdress.
And I wonder about the relationship about the king and Fiiru’s older sister, does he loves her or just went after her because of rumors or some fortune teller? After all Fii was isolated, not even Fiiru (which onii-san already said that liked her sister) went there and probably don’t have notice about her at all.
    Thanks for the chapter!

  3. Aww, poor Fii. She seriously suffers, huh? It’s good that she goes and fights against her fate! I hope you become the best sword fighter and surrounded by bushes! Forget this cruel king that treats you like less than trash!

And seriously, where is this sister of Fii’s? Is she a bitch or kind or something? I wanna know more~

Thank you for the update~ Please update again soon~~

  6. Um… not giveing her any food?
Are they planning to kill her I wonder?
This is pretty similar to a chinese palace story though.
An unpopular concubine must receive a bad treatment from the servant.

Lucky the guard too laze in this story and Fii can got out unnotice.
The heroine in chinese palace only have two choice as living unnotice forever or escape and go straight to a darkest jail.

  7. Fii is way too good at seeing the other person’s point of view. I wonder how this story might have changed if she had forced Roy to meet her at this point…
…incidentally, re-reading through the comments, I feel that Fii has the secret title, “Well-liked by Other Worlders” 😉

  10. That is way too cruel a treatment. What did Fii do to deserve it 😦
not eating anything for two days straight isn’t to be made light of, you know.

  11. Honestly, I disapprove of that King of Orstoll. He’s very powerful and had no obligation to agree to the father’s demand to marry both. He could’ve totally denied to marry the one he didn’t care for! It’s mentioned this guy’s supposed to be really good at politics, right? Well, this was easy. Even if Fii’s father refused to let him marry Fiiru if he didn’t marry Fii, he could’ve played along and said “Very well, no deal then.” Obviously, their father wouldn’t be satisfied to lose the nice mining rights that came with marrying Fiiru to him just because of Fii, who he clearly doesn’t love even though she’s also his daughter. He would’ve ceded first. So WHY agree to marry her too?! Since he agreed, he should take responsibility and at least let her live a decent living even if not luxurious!
